Welcome to The Women of St. John’s
The Women of St. John’s is composed of all the women parishioners of Saint John’s Church in Savannah, Georgia. It is a body within the parish and it plays an important role in the life of the parish. The primary mission and ministry of the Episcopal Church women of St. John’s is to promote the glory of God and the salvation of souls within the unity of the Church and Saint John’s Parish. In particular, the ECW works to:
| ◊ | Draw together the women of Saint John’s in the service of the Lord and the welfare of his Church as a whole; |
| ◊ |
Promote fellowship and good will in the parish complementary to the church’s other missions of worship, education, and evangelism; |
| ◊ | Provide relief and assistance to those in need both within and outside the parish; |
| ◊ | Promote and contribute to the education of adults and children of our parish; |
| ◊ | Visit and minister to the sick and those in need in our parish; and |
| ◊ | Preserve and make available the Green-Meldrim house as our Parish House and a National Historic Landmark open to the wider community. |
To meet these goals the Women of St. John’s:
| ◊ | Organize Coffee Hours and other social events, such as receptions following Evensong and funereal receptions; |
| ◊ | Sponsors the annual “Holly Days Bazaar,” our primary fund raiser and a wonderful opportunity for fellowship and FUN! |
| ◊ | Visits shut-ins; and provides meals to those who are ill or bereaved; |
| ◊ | Grants financial support to various charities in Savannah and abroad; |
| ◊ | Financially supports special projects in the parish; |
| ◊ | Cares for the Chapel of Saint Mary the Virgin; |
| ◊ | Encourages women to worship together in the chapel on Wednesday mornings before our monthly meeting; and |
| ◊ | Conducts monthly meetings not only for the sake of business, but also for the education and instruction of the women of the church in matters of interest to Christians and for the promotion of fellowship. Our general meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month; speakers will be listed in the Parish paper prior to each meeting. |
There are many other things, both large and small, that the Women of St. John’s do for our parish and community. We are an important part of our Church family. Please join us.
