The choirs of St. John’s Church lead the praises and prayers of the congregation in the principal services of this parish. All choirs are trained to sing the finest sacred music from the Classical tradition. Much of the music is drawn from the Anglican tradition with some selections coming from the Lutheran and Latin Catholic traditions. The choirs have combined to produce three CDs and served as choir-in-residence at two British Cathedrals. The Organist – Choirmaster – Brian J. Taylor, D.S.M., came to St. John’s Church in November, 1999 to serve as Interim Organist-Choirmaster. In January, 2000, he implemented a full choral program for children in the parish. In February, 2000, he was appointed Organist-Choirmaster. During this time the choirs have sung concerts with orchestra and recorded three CDs. The Parish, Men and Boys, and Girls Choirs have twice combined to serve as choir-in-residence for one week at a British Cathedral, first at Truro Cathedral in Cornwall in 2003 and at Lichfield Cathedral in 2007. Mr. Taylor also serves on the staff of Elliott House and as Professor of Sacred Music for the Graduate Theological Foundation. In addition, he is Organist-Choirmaster for the Latin Mass Community at St. John Baptist Catholic Cathedral in Savannah. Mr. Taylor previously served churches in Tennessee, Texas, Alabama, New Jersey and Michigan. He received his Bachelor of Music degree from Westminster Choir College, Master of Divinity degree from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Master of Music and Master of Sacred Music degrees from Southern Methodist University and Doctor of Sacred Music degree from the Graduate Theological Foundation.
